Swimming schools

The Kokkola sports services organize swimming schools for pre-school and school-aged children during summer-, and other holidays.

Together with pre-schools and school-aged children we organize swimming lessons. Swimming lessons are an integral part of physical education in schools: Children are accustomed to the water and all are given at least basic swimming lessons. As well children are explained the dangers associated with water and given basic skills for life-saving situations.

What level of group?

  • The first goal is to get used to being in the water, getting your face and hair wet and moving in the water. Then the children start learning elementary swimming skills through games and playing. As their skills improve, the children will have an opportunity to obtain the elementary swimming badge (swimming 10 m either on their front or back).

  • The children already have gained some courage to dive or swim without floats. During this course, the children will learn the correct gliding and swimming position, learn to float on their back and practice the back stroke. They will have an opportunity to obtain the elementary swimming badge (swimming 10 m) or a recreational badge (swimming 25 m on their front and back).

  • For children who have already obtained the Mermaid swimming badge (can swim 10 m).

The swimming classes start at the training pool and the continue in the Olympic pool. The goal of the course is to obtain the recreational badge (swimming 25 m on their front and back).

  • The group meets once a week. Each child will learn elementary swimming skills at their own pace.

Register for the classes directly with the swimming instructor

Mondays at 14.45-15.20 in training pool for a low – skilled group and
at 15.20-16 in Olympic (25m) pool for advanced group.

Wednesdays at 14.45 – 15.30 in Olympic pool for continue swimming school and at 15.45 – 16.15 in training pool for timid children´s group.

  • A swimming instructor conducts swimming badge assessments on Tuesdays of odd weeks from 2.30 pm to 4 pm (NOTE! during the school year).

Children can complete swimming badges in their free-time during the mentioned times. When buying a ticket, you only need to inform the cashier that you are there to complete a swimming badge.

Children who can’t yet swim, must always come with a guardian, who is at least 15 years old.

Swimming badges can be completed from Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 3 pm during the fall and winter break.
