Kokkola in brief

The city of Kokkola was founded in 1620. The municipality has been enlarged through the following municipal consolidations:

  • The municipality of Kaarlela was incorporated into Kokkola in 1977, while the municipality of Öja joined Kaarlela in 1969.
  • The municipalities of Kälviä, Lohtaja and Ullava merged with Kokkola in 2009.
