The corona virus poses challenges to the businesses in Kokkola

30/03/2020

The sudden change in everyday life has changed the operating condition of many sectors. It is still hard to estimate how long or permanent the effects are, but it is clear that they are extensive.

On Friday 23 March the Finnish Government decided on support to single-person businesses to supplement the previously decided support to business. The support will be channelled through the municipalities. The City of Kokkola is drafting an operating model with KOSEK. The aim is to be prepared to take action when the Government's decision on and instructions for the granting of support are received.

The City of Kokkola and KOSEK have started preparing business support measures.  KOSEK is currently offering a Webinar series on the consequences of the corona epidemic on businesses. The next Webinar will be held on Tuesday 31 March. A business survey is also under preparation, the information provided by the survey will be used in the planning of follow-up measures. KOSEK is also actively in touch with the entrepreneurs in the region.

There has been extensive nationwide discussion about temporarily lowering the rent on business premises. The City of Kokkola will discuss the matter in more detail today, Monday, in the Group and Urban Development Division (konserni- ja kaupunkikehitysjaosto).

The corona epidemic also requires that businesses take measures. It is of utter most importance that the entrepreneurs are proactive and take necessary measures in good time. KOSEK’s business advisers offer help to businesses in both large and small matters.
