Sea Diaries – Meripäiväkirjat

Wed 13 – Sat 16 Aug, 12 noon–3 pm
Roos House
Pitkänsillankatu 39

Free entry

During the second week of August, the courtyard of Roos House will transform into Sea Diaries – an immersive art installation created over the course of four open workshops. In the workshops, participants will paint on hand-embroidered dowry linens, passed down from previous generations. As brushstrokes bring new, colourful stories to life along the hems of the lace, the process is accompanied by a marine-inspired soundscape, video work, and excerpts from the sea journals of Alma Hongell, a historic seafaring woman.

Sea Diaries is a community artwork open to people of all ages. The workshops are held in Finnish, English, and Spanish. They are free of charge and require no registration – just drop in and take part! The artwork will be on view and in constant transformation from Wednesday to Saturday. You’re welcome to stop by and admire it even outside workshop hours.

Open workshops in the courtyard of Roos House:

Wed 13 Aug, 12–3 pm
Thu 14 Aug, 12–3 pm
Fri 15 Aug, 12–3 pm
Sat 16 Aug, 12–3 pm

The event is a collaboration between K.H.Renlund Museum, MeWeArt and visual artist Sanna-Mari Prittinen, video artist Marja Haapakangas, and sound artist/composer Ville Palin. The project is supported by the City of Kokkola, Keski-Pohjanmaan kulttuurirahasto and Keskipohjanmaa-säätiö.
