Biological ӏ Phenomena

Roos house, Pitkänsillankatu 39
Open Tue–Sun 11 am–4 pm, Thu 11 am–6 pm

Biological ӏ Phenomena explores the dynamic and mutually reflective relationships between nature and humanity, science and art. The exhibition turns its gaze toward the fragile ecosystem surrounding us and the cycle of life. It highlights the impacts of climate change in desert landscapes and the far reaches of Lapland, as well as the excessive habits of consumer society, while at the same time admiring, for instance, the nocturnal blossoming of the Queen of the Night and bearing witness to the inevitable course of natural processes despite human activity. Biological ӏ Phenomena contemplates the layers of biology and time, reaching far into the future.
The works of 26 artists and artist groups presented in the exhibition have been curated from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Collection, one of the most significant collections of Finnish contemporary art. Biological ӏ Phenomena is realized in collaboration with the art museums of Rovaniemi, Kajaani, and Riihimäki.
We’re working on a new concept!
The second floor of the Roos House is closed as of Monday, February 2, 2026, due to the renewal of the main exhibition. The Roos House’s ground floor as well as our other museum locations are open as usual during the renewal of the exhibition. While the second floor is closed, the admission fee to the Roos House’s ground floor temporary exhibition is only 5 euros/0 euros (normally 8 euros/5 euros).
The new exhibition will open in summer 2026. The exhibition delves into the bourgeois lifestyle of the era through the Roos familiy’s social life – exploring stories, traditions and human destinies, while offering art experiences from the Golden Age of Finnish art.
