During the summer months, only a few on-duty day care centres are open.
Early Childhood Education and Care with longer opening hours is available as usual at Kotimetsä day care centre.
Survey on Fee-Free Summer Absences in Early Childhood Education and Care – children born 2020 – 2025
If your child is absent for a reason other than illness, the fee for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) is half of the normal monthly fee (Act on Client Fees in Early Childhood Education and Care, Section 9).
In the summer, Kokkola offers a benefit with fee‑free absence if your child is cared for at home for at least two full months.
If your child is cared for at home in June and July, July and August, or June, July and August, you do not have to pay an ECEC fee for the time your child is absent.
Your child will keep their place in ECEC during their summer absence.
Please note that you cannot receive KELA’s Child home care allowance during this time.

Pre-Primary Education (pre-school) and ECEC end on 29 May 2026.
