At Kokkola Finnish Upper Secondary School, a student council operates in accordance with the Upper Secondary School Act. All students of the school are members of the student council, whose purpose is to provide students with opportunities to have an influence, to promote students’ interests, and to create a pleasant learning environment.
The activities of the student council are led by the student council board. The board’s duties include, among other things, safeguarding students’ interests, representing students in decision-making, and cooperating with the teachers and principals of the school. The board also collaborates with other educational institutions and student councils in the Central Ostrobothnia region, as well as with the Kokkola Youth Council. The board organizes various events together with the school and other upper secondary schools, such as a pre-Christmas party in winter and an activity day in spring, and also supports students’ own initiatives.
The student council board consists of a maximum of 30 members. In addition to ordinary members, the board includes a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and persons responsible for events and communications. The board’s supervising teachers are Nina Roimela and Jussi Hietapakka.
Students can join the student council board by indicating their interest via a form sent out at the beginning of the school year. The new board is formed at an organizational meeting, where individuals are selected for the various positions of responsibility.
The board meets regularly in weekly meetings and holds monthly official meetings. All students are free to attend these meetings and have the right to request the floor.
The student council board communicates about its activities via Instagram (@kslopiskelijakunta), through Wilma, and through the school’s information systems. The documents of the most recent meeting are available on the notice board on the second floor. Older documents or other documents can be requested from the board.
