This year, the City’s New Year’s reception at Kokkola Market Square is especially aimed at children and families. The children’s choir Sävelsäkki; musical duo Soiva Sammakko and Studio Dancement will perform at the event that starts at 7 pm. The event is opened by the chairperson of the City Council, Tiina Isotalus. The event ends with a firework display that can be seen from the market square, Urheilutalo parking lot and from the Rantakatu side of Sunti. Changes in the program are possible due to weather.
The streets surrounding the Market Square will be closed off for traffic for the duration of the event. Traffic on the pedestrian and bike paths passing the City Hall will also be restricted. Both parking lots by the City Hall will be out of use due to the firework display.
