School of Rock

Fulfil your musical dream in the School of Rock!

The Kokkola School of Rock is the perfect place for you if you are interested in music and want to start playing an instrument or taking singing lessons. You are 10–20 years old and are living in Kokkola or a neighbouring municipality. We also consider the needs of special groups in our educational selection.

There are no entrance examinations or aptitude tests for joining the School of Rock, and you can start by trying out different instruments. Degree-oriented personal study plans can be drawn up for more advanced students.

The School of Rock is a music school operating under the Kokkola youth services, and it offers affordable and versatile teaching in Finnish, Swedish and English. The School of Rock provides young people with an opportunity to engage in a creative hobby, improve their social interaction skills and express themselves on the stage either alone or in groups.

Each year, the school has approximately 140 students. The School of Rock has been operating since 1985 and it has helped in raising a whole group of professional musicians. Over the years, the school has produced several large music productions, music videos and recordings.

The operational instructor of the school is Jussi Turpeinen. In the School of Rock, we take the individual needs and wishes of the students into account when we plan the teaching. All teaching, including the individual lessons and instructed band work, is provided in the evenings from Monday to Friday. In the School of Rock, you can take basic degrees in playing different instruments or singing and in the fundamentals of music (music theory and ear training).

The school also has a peer support class programme, which enables different school classes to visit the School of Rock.
