Can you guess what was eaten on Isokari on Sundays in the early 20th century?

The island of Isokari is also called Friisi island. The island got its name from the merchant family Friis-Pohjanpalo. The business of the Friis-Pohjanpalo family expanded in 1895 with a new engineering workshop near the island of Isokari, in Ykspihlaja, Kokkola. The family built a villa on the island of Isokari. They entertained their employees on the island and organised public excursions and pleasure trips there. The Friis-Pohjanpalo family spent time at their villa on Isokari in the summers until the 1960s.

The villa and other buildings have since been demolished. However, many signs of the island’s former use remain, such as an old cellar, foundations, and pier structures on the shore.

The Friis family used to bring their employees to the island by tugboat on summer Sundays to spend time over lemonade and buns.
