The curriculum for general upper secondary education in the City of Kokkola was adopted on 1 August 2016. The local curriculum was drawn up specifically for Kokkola, with consideration for both Finnish and Swedish-speaking upper secondary education. Kokkola has adopted a joint curriculum for young people and adults.
The curriculum does not include a syllabus for languages or religions that are uncommon in Kokkola but should the need to provide teaching in these subjects arise, the National Core Curriculum will be applied in the organisation of the studies.
