Support for studying and student welfare

Special needs teacher

The purpose of special needs education in upper secondary schools is to support and assist the students so that they all have equal possibilities to complete their studies. The special needs teacher is responsible for dyslexia testing and statements.

School nurse and doctor

The school nurse is responsible for providing upper secondary school students with student welfare services. The nurse is available every day or at separately agreed times. The students also have a possibility to see the school doctor. Students from outside Kokkola are also entitled to use the school health care services.

School social worker

The school social worker helps students with problems related to studying, life management and social life, and refers students to professional services, when necessary.

School psychologist

The school psychologist supports students with issues related to learning and studying, changes in their life situation, social relationships, and well-being and mental status.

Financial aid for students

You can get financial aid for post-comprehensive school education which involves full-time studies and is aimed at young people. Students living in rental accommodation can get general housing allowance.

School transport subsidy

You are eligible for Kela’s school transport subsidy if your travel distance to school is at least 10 kilometres one way. The City of Kokkola will reimburse students for the entire co-payment share of the school travel costs. More information on transport subsidy on Kela’s website.
