Maintenance

The infrastructure building and maintenance services of the City of Kokkola maintain the local transport network that includes around 300 kilometres of roads and about 125 kilometres of sidewalks and cycleways. The purpose of road maintenance is to keep the streets in adequate condition for vehicle traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. Road maintenance work is divided into the maintenance, winter maintenance and cleaning of road structures. Maintaining the roads is the responsibility of both the municipality and plot owners.

The winter maintenance of streets includes ploughing, combating slippery road conditions, snow removal and the removal of sanding material. The starting limits for ploughing are 7 cm on roads and 3 cm on sidewalks and cycleways.

The summer maintenance of roads includes renewing old road surfaces, carrying out road marking work, repairing and renewing traffic signs, keeping gravel roads even, and dust binding.
